Atlantic White Cedar – chamaecyparis thyoides
Heartwood is light reddish brown; narrow sapwood is pale yellow-brown to almost white; clearly defined. Grain is straight, with a fine uniform texture.
Coastal plain and swampy areas of Eastern US to Louisiana at 65-100 ft tall and 1-2 ft diameter. Dried Weight: 24 lbs/ft3; Janka Hardness of 350 lbf

Northern White Cedar -thuja occidentalis
Heartwood is pale brown or tan; narrow sapwood is nearly white. Numerous small knots are common. Grain is usually straight, with a fine, even texture. Also known as Arborvitae (Tree of Life)
Harvested in northeast US and southeast Canada west to Great Lakes as 50-65 ft tall, 1.3-2 ft wide trees. Dried weight of 22 lbs/ft3 and Janka Hardness of 320 lbf with Crushing Strength of 3,960 lbf/in2

Heartwood is light, yellowish brown with Sapwood nearly white. Some scattered pockets of darker wood that have been attacked by fungi, which is sometimes called pecky cypress. Straight grain with medium to coarse texture.
Sourced from southeastern US as 80-120 ft tall, and 3-5 ft wide trees. Dried weight of 32 lbs/ft3 and Janka Hardness of 510 lbf, Crushing Strength of 6,360 lbf/in2

Heartwood- lt. to med. brown often with olive cast. Sapwood- Near white to lt. brown, and not always distinct. Quarter sawn displays ray fleck patterns. Grain is straight, with coarse, uneven texture.
Sourced in Eastern US in 65-85 ft heights, 3-4 ft trunk diameter, with dried weight of 47 lbs/ft and Janka hardness of 1,350 lb, Crushing Strength of 7,370 lbf/in2
